Growing Point: Garden lessons in the Bible Soul Water: Nurturing your soul through prayer Earth Explorations: Nurturing Connections to the Soil Seeds for Thought: Additional Resources to Nurture Soil & Soul Garden lessons in the Bible Your word is a lamp to my feed and a light to my path. -Psalm 119: 105 NRSV In the garden, the path helps to lead us on our way. It identifies where it is safe to step and where we should avoid stepping. Outside the garden, our life can be considered to be like a path. All day, every day we make choices. Each choice we make is like taking a step down the path. Depending on the choices we make, we might either stay on the path, or we might step off the path and crush one of the plants in the garden. We stay on the path when we make good choices that are consistent with our faith and choices that help to grow our faith. The Message states today’s psalm verse as “By your words I can see where I’m going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path.” Scripture lights our way so that we can see well and don’t stumble on bumps in the path, and that we stay on the path rather than stepping off so we don’t kill plants and don’t compact the soil so that the plants don’t thrive as well. Bible stories and verses offer support, comfort us, inspire us, challenge us, and guide us. In this way, they make it easier to see our future by making it easier to make good choices, just as carrying a flashlight makes it easier to see a path if we are walking at night. back to top of Lesson 1: Lighting the Path Nurturing your soul through prayer still coming... back to top of Lesson 1: Lighting the Path Nurturing Connections to the Soil still coming... back to top of Lesson 1: Lighting the Path Additional Resources to Nurture Soil & Soul still coming... back to top of Lesson 1: Lighting the Path |
