Hope UCC Liturgist
During the week you can expect to receive a copy of the bulleting from Sonja with all participants’ parts marked; it will also include the scripture readings. If you do not receive a bulletin or there is something wrong with the email, please call Sonja, 824-1760 for assistance.
Most weeks the liturgist will lead the Call to Worship, Opening Prayer or Prayer of Confession and Assurance of Pardon, and the Prayer of Dedication after the offering. Liturgists also read the first scripture reading and invite the children forward for the Children’s story. There are occasional changes to this assignment but Tisha will notify you of those in advance of Sunday morning.
1) Practice the scripture reading; resolve any pronunciation questions by asking the pastor.
2) Arrive early enough on Sunday morning to check in briefly with pastor for clarification or last minute adjustments of reading plans or other information about the service.
3) Read sections of the liturgy assigned to you and direct the Congregation at the appropriate times during the service:
a. When leading the Call to Worship, please say; “Please stand as you are able and join me in the Call to Worship”
b. When there is a unison reading or prayer, it is helpful to lead the congregation into it by using a phrase like, “Let us read/pray together….”
c. Approach the Lectern during the last verse of the hymn preceding your
reading.
If this is a Combined MCC service, Scripture readings are shared: one by an Advent member, one by a Hope member. You will receive the portion of scripture you are to read sometime during the week. The pastors are the liturgists.
