We have heard the stories of a number of people from Hope and Advent regarding what they are passionate about (for pay and not-for-pay) and how those passions either follow from or lead to spiritual development. Children are divided into classes according to age, with approximately ten different Sunday School classes. Brand new curricula have been selected for the 2002-03 school year. Preschool through 4th grade will be using the story-based BibleQuest, 5th grade and up will be using the lectionary-based Living the Good News. Youth Education Committee This committee oversees the Sunday School program at MCC, providing an infrastructure to support teachers and students. Our goal is to facilitate and create a setting in which the mission of the Sunday School ministry can be met. Tasks include recruiting Sunday School teachers, determining class structure and size, creating the Sunday School schedule for the year, acting as shepherds during Sunday School to provide support for teachers, and purchasing supplies from crayons to curricula. Through the Youth Education Committee, connections are strengthened between the children of the congregation, the worship service, the teachers, and the home. The Youth Education Committee coordinates the children's Christmas service, working with Sunday School teachers and the worship committee to create a service in which the children participate. On behalf of the MCC, the Committee also coordinates Teacher Recognition Sunday (aka Sundae Sunday), organizing a sundae potluck, including the children in the service and purchasing thank you gifts for the Sunday School teachers. Additionally, the Committee organizes intergenerational activities. These are Sundays throughout the year during which children of all ages join together during Sunday School to work on such projects as making Valentine's for Vets, working outside on the church grounds, and the St. Nick's workshop.
