Advent Mens Monday Breakfast Group (SNAGS) Advent Mens Friday Breakfast Group (FATIGUEs) Advent Womens Breakfast Group Community of Hope Mens Breakfast Group Community of Hope Womens Prayer Group MCC Theological Discussion Group Elizabeth Circle welcomes anyone interested in joining us for an evening of sharing, caring and Bible Study. Currently our studies explore the parables of Jesus. We meet the second Thursday of each month from 7-9 pm at the Oakwood West Tabor Oaks Conference Room. There is always room at our meeting table for you. We value and enjoy our relationships with one another and would like you to join us.
The morning circle, Judith Circle, meets from 9-11 a.m. in members homes the 2nd Tuesday of each month, September through June. Announcements (with the address of the months hostess) are always carried in the newsletter and bulletin and we urge any woman to just show upno advance call is necessary. We share a morning coffee break and the Bible Study found in the centerfold of the magazine, Lutheran Woman Today. We deepen our faith and our friendship all at the same time and we try to keep abreast of issues affecting women whether thats community-, nation-, or world-wide. The free-will offering we collect supports the national womens organization of the ELCA as well as needs here at Advent/MCC. Wed love to have you join us whenever you can. Advent Mens Monday Breakfast Group (SNAGS)
The Advent Men's Group (sometimes referred to as the Sensitive New Age GuysSNAGs) meets each week at 7:00 AM on Mondays. Except for holidays those meetings are held in the Rathskeller at the University's Memorial Union. The men discuss a wide variety of topics both spiritual and secular. We also have an annual overnight "golf and steak" outing and periodically engage in public service work such as working with local organizations on projects. Men of all ages are very welcome to attend and so are women for that matter (we could stand the quality improvement that would result). Advent Mens Friday Breakfast Group (FATIGUEs) FATIGUEs = Fellows Always Tired Of Getting Up Early The FATIGUES men's group at Advent was originally formed off of a sub-set of the Family Fellowship group. We get together for breakfast on Friday mornings at 6:30am at the Original Pancake House on University Avenue. We also try to get together on occasion for other activities, such as a night of pool at the Green Room.
Advent Womens Breakfast Group
The Advent Women's Breakfast Group meets weekly on Thursday mornings starting at 7:00am, although latecomers are always welcome, at the Pasqual's in Hilldale. We meet for fellowship and support, we meet for laughter and sharing of family events, we meet for book talks and friendship. We have supported a homeless family at Christmas, helped Youth fundraising at the Spaghetti supper, and take one or two retreats a year. There is always room for one more, so if you have about an hour that you would like to spend with good company and great rolls, please pull up a chair. If you would like more information, please contact the church office at 836-1455.

GOOD FOOD. GOOD CONVERSATION. GOOD FELLOWSHIP. LOTSA LAUGHS! We meet every first and third Wednesday at 6:30am at "The Original Pancake House" (North side of University just east of Brennans.) We have no set agenda, no homework, no reading assignments. We talk about whatever topic comes up. If we can't solve all the world's problems we move on to local and congregational subjectsnot to mention a few funny stories. Our only agenda is simply to enjoy one another's company. Come join us!
Community of Hope Womens Prayer Group The group usually meets on Fridays at Madison Christian Community at 7:15 a.m.
Family fellowship meets occasionally for fellowship, fun and service. While many participants are families with young children, all members of the MCC are welcome at any time. Our annual events include a weekend of camping at Bethel Horizons each June, and an evening of caroling at a local nursing home each December. We also gather from time to time for picnics, potlucks and adult-only evenings out.
We are a mixed adult group that meets about twice a month for fellowship. We have video discussions (mostly winter), potlucks, outdoor activities (mostly summer) and outings to concerts, plays, and historical sites. We also sponsor the New Years Eve progressive dinner. Just come when an activity appeals to you. All ages are invited to our summer outdoor activities.
A group of MCC members gets together one Friday a month to watch a film and then discuss its content. Movies we have watched together have included: Strangers in Good Company, Everybodys Fine, The Last Temptation of Christ, Being There, Places in the Heart, Babettes Feast and The Fisher King, and many more. The dates and locations of some films are yet to be determined.
OPALS (Only Perceptive and Lively Sessions) is a womens book discussion group which meets at the church on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. The group began in 1995. We now have about 12 members. We discuss fiction and non-fiction books, which our members have nominated. Members take turns leading the discussions. The titles to be discussed are always in the Good News. If youd like more information, call Dolores Lillge (277-1936) or just come to our next meeting.
The MCC Quilters turn donated fabrics into warm and beautiful quilts which are shipped to Lutheran World Relief (LWR) warehouses for ultimate distribution worldwide. The quilts we make in the church basement the first Tuesday of every month are given (never sold!) to people who have lost their household goods due to calamity and without regard to race, creed, nationality or politics. During the last five years over 2 million such quilts were distributed by LWR and 570 of them were made right here! By, the way, these are not the hand-stitched quilts like the Amish are famous for, but they are made with love. If you'd like to help, here's how you can get involved: * Drop off fabrics, sheets, tablecloths, curtains at church any time. About the only cloth we CAN'T use are slippery dress goods, terry, fiberglass and T-shirt knits. * Join us from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the 1st Tuesday in the church basement. Bring a sack lunch if you're able to stay the whole time. No equipment or prior skills needed. * If you'd rather sew at home at your own schedule, just call to let Hildy McGown (238-8670) know of your interest and she'll get you started on this rewarding project.
MCC Theological Discussion Group Our group meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the MCC to discuss a book. We take our time and so may spend several sessions on the book we have chosen. Our readings have included Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott; Why Christian? by Douglas John Hall and Jesus Plan for a New World by Richard Rohr.
MCC Wilderness Adventure Groups
Members of the MCC have been known to plan a variety of outdoor outings ranging from a leisurely hike or canoe ride for the afternoon to a week in the scenic and peaceful Canadian Quetico miles away from phones and the comforts of modern life. These are wonderful opportunities to meet other members and anyone is invited to participate. Just check the newsletter and keep your ears perked for announcements or become the brave soul to initiate a trip yourself!
