Nurturing Soil, Soul -- and Chickens!!
MCC has embarked on another
sustainable agriculture project: We have a beautiful
garden -- why not throw in some chickens? The chicken
ministry includes the sale of eggs to raise money to buy
chicks for those less fortunate through Heifer
International, or donated to a local food pantry. Lucas Schneider
and fellow Boy Scouts built a coop for
us for his Eagle Project. The coop is located on
the southwest corner of the garden. We've acquired seven lovely
laying hens in to start our flock. We are
calling on members to help us care for the chickens. Care is simple and will include just feeding
and watering. and you're welcome to collect and enjoy
any eggs you find during your chicken-care tenure, which
would include Monday through Friday. This will be a fun and educational
experience for children, so we're encouraging families to to
get involved.
