MCC Family Fellowship
Family fellowship meets occasionally for fellowship, fun and service. While many participants are families with young children, all members of the MCC are welcome at any time. Our annual events include a weekend of camping at Bethel Horizons each June, and an evening of caroling at a local nursing home each December. We also gather from time to time for picnics, potlucks and adult-only evenings out.
MCC Community Group
We are a mixed adult group that meets about twice a month for fellowship. We have video discussions (mostly winter), potlucks, outdoor activities (mostly summer) and outings to concerts, plays, and historical sites. We also sponsor the New Years Eve progressive dinner. Just come when an activity appeals to you. All ages are invited to our summer outdoor activities.
MCC Film Group
A group of MCC members gets together one Friday a month to watch a film and then discuss its content. Movies we have watched together have included: Strangers in Good Company, Everybodys Fine, The Last Temptation of Christ, Being There, Places in the Heart, Babettes Feast and The Fisher King, and many more. The dates and locations of some films are yet to be determined.
MCC OPALS
OPALS (Only Perceptive and Lively Sessions) is a womens book discussion group which meets at the church on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. The group began in 1995. We now have about 12 members. We discuss fiction and non-fiction books, which our members have nominated. Members take turns leading the discussions. The titles to be discussed are always in the Good News. If youd like more information, call Dolores Lillge (277-1936) or just come to our next meeting.
MCC Quilters
The MCC Quilters turn donated fabrics into warm and beautiful quilts which are shipped to Lutheran World Relief (LWR) warehouses for ultimate distribution worldwide. The quilts we make in the church basement the first Tuesday of every month are given (never sold!) to people who have lost their household goods due to calamity and without regard to race, creed, nationality or politics. During the last five years, over 2 million such quilts were distributed by LWR and 570 of them were made right here! By, the way, these are not the hand-stitched quilts like the Amish are famous for, but they are made with love. If you'd like to help, here's how you can get involved:
* Drop off fabrics, sheets, tablecloths, curtains at church any time. About the only cloth we CAN'T use are slippery dress goods, terry, fiberglass and T-shirt knits.
* Join us from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the 1st Tuesday in the church basement. Bring a sack lunch if you're able to stay the whole time. No equipment or prior skills needed.
* If you'd rather sew at home at your own schedule, just call to let Hildy McGown (238-8670) know of your interest and she'll get you started on this rewarding project.
MCC Theological Discussion Group
Our group meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the MCC to discuss a book. We take our time and so may spend several sessions on the book we have chosen. Our readings have included Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott; Why Christian? by Douglas John Hall and Jesus' Plan for a New World by Richard Rohr.
