"Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver," (2 Corinthians 9:7) The disciple trusts that the world and life belongs to God and is called to be a caretaker of the gifts God entrusts to him/her. In response to God's touch in our lives, we offer ourselves joyfully to others; our time, our talent and our financial treasures. We receive and discover spiritual gifts. The growing disciple finds ways to unpack and use those gifts for the sake of Jesus, the church and the world. As a disciple congregation we encourage one another to support the mission of the community by generously giving financially and using our gifts to serve joyfully. We encourage one another to be stewards of our personal health and stewards of the environment. Stewardship of the Environment Madison Christian Community in an environmentally conscious community. The Energy Task Force strives to reduce the size of the footprint on the environment resulting from the emissions the building releases into the atmosphere. Kevin Little of Informing Ecological Design, LLC graciously installed a prototype of a computer monitoring system to monitor the use of energy around the clock. This technology has motivated MCC to reduce energy consumption through behavior changes and employing measures to reduce energy consumption. Madison Christian Community was awarded a $15,000.00 demonstration grant in July 2002 which helped defray the costs of installing a solar unit in October 2002. Members of Madison Christian Community are also encouraged to make lifestyle commitments that are environmentally responsible. Members are invited to make specific commitments as they relate to use of energy, political advocacy, and responsible purchasing. More than thirty members have participated in the MCC EcoTeams. At Madison Christian Community stewardship is all response! Our response is rooted in the conviction that God creates and sustains life and offers new life through Jesus. God has blessed each of us with abundant gifts: personality, experiences, talents, failures, interests, dreams and financial resources. In gratitude for gifts we have received, we use our gifts to serve with joy. Members of Madison Christian Community make an annual financial commitment and generously support the mission of MCC and ministries beyond the congregations. |
