"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path," (Psalm 119:105). The regular study of the Bible and books that help to enliven its message is a key way the disciple practices loving and knowing God. Study happens privately through personal Bible study and a regular devotional time. Study also happens publicly as families and friends learn together, in small groups, and through larger gatherings of formal study and worship. Through reading, meditating and the study of Scripture, the lively word of God becomes active in the lives of believers. The Holy Spirit inspires us through Scripture to see ourselves as we are and as God would have us become. As a discipleship congregation we provide growth opportunities through Bible and topical studies and discussion groups. We offer devotional material to deepen our devotional lives. We encourage one another to engage in some form of study. We do offer a variety of learning opportunities in conjunction with our Sunday School for people of all ages. Sessions are held from 9:00-10:00 am. Our adult education offerings are planned by a team of lay members and clergy, sessions are also taught by lay and clergy. Parallel to our Sunday adult education series, we also offer ongoing bible study series. Pastors and lay people lead the study through guided questions and facilitate open and lively discussion. Our group meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the MCC to discuss a book. We take our time and so may spend several sessions on the book we have chosen. Our readings have included Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott; Why Christian? by Douglas John Hall and Jesus Plan for a New World by Richard Rohr. We are currently reading Ruthless Trust by Brennan Manning. Madison Christian Community 7118 Old Sauk Road Madison, WI 53717-1099 Phone: 608-836-1455 |
